Ultimate Top 10 Right Now

This is the last in our 2018 Top 10 Right Now series highlighting the Top 10 players at each position, as well as, taking the number one player from each position to create a Top 10, Top 10 list. Ok, actually, this is a Top 11 list based on each position including the top reliever and DH.

This is the ultimate Top 11 list, taking each of the adjusted number one’s from each position to create the best of the best based mostly on how much they can affect their team’s success.  Don’t mistake this for a list highlighting the Top 11 players overall in the game, however, simply because other positions may have runners up that are better than a top player at his position.  This simply attempts to rank each player that finished first at their respective position in our previous lists:

Nov. 13 – Executives
Nov. 20 – Managers
Nov. 27 – Second Basemen
Dec. 4 – Relief Pitchers
Dec. 11 – Center Fielders
Dec. 18 – Shortstops
Dec. 25 – Designated Hitters
Jan. 1 – Left Fielders
Jan. 8 – First Basemen
Jan. 15 – Starting Pitchers
Jan. 22 – Catchers
Jan. 29 – Third Basemen
Feb. 5 – Right Fielders

Here is how the top player from each position stack up against each other.

11.) Edwin Encarnacion
10.) Kenley Jansen
9.) Aaron Judge
8.) Buster Posey
7.) Francisco Lindor
6.) Bryce Harper
5.) Nolan Arenado
4.) Corey Kluber
3.) Jose Altuve
2.) Joey Votto
1.) Mike Trout

Notes: The Indians have three of the top players at their respective position (Kluber, Lindor, Encarnacion)… A healthy season of Trout (which we’re counting on) still barely edges out Votto’s best season… I’m more bullish on the effects pitchers can have on the game this season… Harper would be higher if he could prove he can stay on the field (see his 2015 season)… Lindor’s defense really helps him – not that he’s a slouch with the bat, either… Judge’s 2017 would be worthy of a top 3 spot, but he still has a big hole in his swing that could be targeted.  Would like to see him repeat before I know that’s the player he actually is… it’s still hard to get a reliever higher than most of these every day guys.
